The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks (2003)

Have you ever wondered about what you would do if a Zombie outbreak occurred in your area?  Well now there is a guide to help you figure that out!  The Zombie Survival Guide is a fun and surprisingly in depth book about surviving, if not thriving, in a zombie infested world.  It starts out looking at the Zombies themselves and the “Myths and Realities” of them.  It explains all about their abilities, biology and the threat they represent.  It then looks at the tools and weapons you can use to help you escape and fight the Zombies.  Then it goes into very detailed descriptions of how to survive in various scenarios and terrains.  It then rounds itself out by finishing with several accounts of recorded zombie attacks throughout history.  It even includes several pages that you can enter future outbreaks you hear about so that you can keep an updated journal yourself.

The best thing about this book is that it never breaks character.  The worst thing about this book is that it never breaks character.  If you're the type of person that likes to imagine yourself surviving through a zombie outbreak while watching zombie movies, then this may not be the book for you, because once you read this book you will realize that you probably won't live or will at least be miserable if you do.  Also, this book is written so well in the style that most other survival guides are written in that it has the same problem that they do, it gets a bit dry after a while.  I'm not the type that sits and reads through survival guides for fun or finds them that entertaining.  They are cool resources if you need them, but not always the best read.  This book is a bit more entertaining than must just because of it's subject matter, but it's still a survival guide.

I'd say this book is worth getting, if only to have it on your bookshelf.  It can be a fun read but isn't as much fun as some of the other books you could spend your time on.
