Stormforce (2009)

Rick Symons is an army diver who goes a bit too far during a “training exercise” that some of the top brass of the military set up a wager on.  When he damages a politician’s car in order to win the wager, his commanding officer is forced to give him a demotion, sending him to join the Air Forces 40th Search and Rescue Squadron.  Once there he meets a spunky medic whom he got the best of doing the earlier “training exercise”.  He also meets up with some old friends that he shares some rather dramatic history with.  As the story moves along they do a few rescue missions and some more drama unfolds between the different characters.  Then, after a personally tragic failed rescue attempt, Symons is ready to throw in the towel and leave the squadron.  Just as he is about to leave, however, a call comes in about a ship that is on fire and sinking fast.  He can't resist going out for one last big mission.

This Belgian movie is fairly well made, but gets a bit slow at times.  Even some of the actions scenes aren't that exciting.  It does have some neat military/rescue equipment that they use a lot especially rescue helicopters and such.  The acting isn't bad and there is quite a bit of drama that unfolds throughout the flick.  The drama isn't really my thing, but someone who likes dramas will probably enjoy this movie all the more for it.  There aren't many special effects, but the cool ships and helicopters make up for it.

If you like somewhat realistic emergency response type movies with lots of drama, then this is the movie for you.  If not, you might want to skip it.  It's not a bad movie though and even though it's not the type I normally watch I was somewhat entertained.  It's also Belgian!  Which is a plus to me.  Might be worth watching just to say you watched a Belgian movie.
