Midnight Blue Volume 6: Porn Stars of the ‘80s
I’m back with another review of a Midnight Blue DVD. If you haven’t read my earlier reviews and don’t know what this is Midnight Blue was a public access cable show that focused on the adult industry. But it was just more then that as it sort of was a tribute to all things smutty and sexual. As the title suggests this one focuses on the porn stars of the ‘80s.
The first interview is with Vanessa Del Rio. It is an interesting interview that goes a bit into how she got into the porn business. The interview is conducted by Steve Kraus instead of Al Goldstein. To me this is a bit of a bummer. The interview soon ends up with Vanessa rolling around on a bet with Mr. Kraus manhandling her. Then we get another interview this time with Desiree Cousteau at the premier of her “last” movie (though it wasn’t). It was interesting because she talks about her preferences and what she won’t do on camera. There is even talk of an enema scene from one of her movies… Damn I watch some strange stuff.
So far it has been kind of disappointing because Al Goldstein, who is Mr. Midnight Blue, has hardly been in it yet. That changes when he shows up to interview actor/director Paul Thomas. There is some talk about how he became a porn star and why he eventually went into directing. There is also some talk about John Holmes. It was interesting how seriously he takes making the movies.
Then we get a little something different. One of the reoccurring gags with Midnight Blue is a segment with their sex therapist Jackie Park. People write in with all their twisted sex issues. This time around we here her give advice to a woman whose boyfriend can’t have sex unless he was near his mother’s grave. Yeah I really hope that one was made up. Then there is another one with a guy that has a shoe fetish because his mother wasn’t nice to him when he was growing up.
After this we get back to the interviews. Krista Lane is interviewed by Steve Kraus. She talks about her new movie, Deep Throat part II, and tries to explain the plot. This is all while Kraus is basically molesting her on camera. Eventually she gets around to the story of her joining the mile high club. This is followed up with Ron Jeremy doing a comedy routine. Honestly he isn’t that funny. After the clip Gail Klein interviews him. This is actually an interesting interview that covers him getting his Master’s Degree in special education. He then chats about trying to break into the theater as an actor and how that segued into his career in adult movies. I was surprised by how thoughtful his answers were.
Then we get back to some Al Goldstein fun. We have an interesting bit with Annie Sprinkles that shows off some good footage of 42nd street back in the day. After enjoying the footage of the marquees and the neighborhood we get a decent interview with her. Al asks the questions that only he would ask, which gets right to the good stuff. This segment is ended with a review of Deep Inside Annie Sprinkles.
If all of this wasn’t enough for you we also get him interviewing Annette Haven, Tiffany Clark, Veronica Hart, and Nina Hartley. Toss these interviews in with some funny ads for phone sex lines, escort services, paint on tattoo kits, an erotic bakery and one for a steak house to give the proceedings that authentic NYC feel. Damn they even have a parody with Weird Uncle Louie selling a gas powered vibrator and a home humiliation system and bottle opener combo!
Midnight Blue Porn Stars of the ‘80s doesn’t disappoint. It is sleazy and has a great exploitation vibe to it. If you like this sort of thing then this one is a must have.
