Donkey Punch (2008)

It's all fun and games until a Donkey Punch goes bad.  Oh it all starts out innocently enough.  Three British girls on vacation meet some guys in a bar who steal some champagne and invite the girls to the yacht they work on.  The girls go along with it and once on the boat the guys decide they should go out to sea so that their partying doesn't disturb the neighboring boats.  Things escalate, there is more drinking and flirting, someone supplies some ecstasy, they chat about deviant sexual acts a bit and ominous music starts playing as harder drugs come into play.  Eventually two of the girls go downstairs with three of the guys and an orgy ensues.  Things get carried away and one of the guys, egged on by his friend, decides to Donkey Punch the girl and accidentally breaks her neck.  Now what to do?  Do the guys try to do the right thing and alert the authorities?  Hell no!  They decide to bury the dead girl's body at sea (despite her friends protests) and just make the problem go away.  Eventually the guys get their way and the girl’s body is thrown overboard.  This leads to a highly charged atmosphere and soon people on the boat are killing each other off in various and sundry ways.

I think this movie might have been better if I was able to empathize with the characters in it.  Unfortunately most of the guys were douche bags and two of the girls were whores.  There was a girl that didn't want to go on the boat in the first place that I could feel for a bit and the guy that liked her weren't too bad, though they didn't seem to have much of a personality at all.  There were some cool death scenes in here, but nothing that was totally original or made you go wow.  I did however giggle a few times as one of the guys was killed or tortured.  The gore effects weren't that special but they were ok.  There was a part where one of the girls was pulling a piece of glass from her leg that made me wince, but it was as much because of her good job acting it out as it was about the effect. The overall acting wasn't bad, but it didn't make up for something that was lacking in the script.

This wasn't a bad movie.  It was professionally made and done well.  There just wasn't much to it in my opinion.  Nothing new to draw you in and make you pay attention.  It would be fine to watch on TV or even to rent if you can't find anything better that you want to watch, but I wouldn't personally buy a copy unless it was nice and cheap.  For more information on this movie and their other great DVD releases check out the Magnet Releasing website at http://www.magnetreleasing.com/index.html
