Demonic Toys 2 (2010)

The killer dolls are back.  This time around Jack in the Box and Baby Oopsie-Daisy are part of a collection that is taken to a castle while their owner is searching for more toys.  At this castle is what appears to be a mechanical demon named Divoletto that of course turns out to be real.  He wakes up Jack and Oopsie-Daisy and together they start to kill off everyone in the castle.  Toss in a subplot about the spirit of an angry woman that is somehow connected to Divoletto and you have the movie.  Who lives and who dies?  Does it really matter?

Let me answer my own question here by saying no.  I don’t know how the rest of you watch one of these killer doll/toy/puppet movies but what I want from them is a chance to turn my brain off and enjoy the mayhem.  I want some good kills and interesting little monsters running around.  Demonic Toys 2 gives me some of this.  Lets start off with what the movie does well.

The pacing of the story is rapid and they waste no time getting to the real stars.  The toys are animated quickly and they spend very little time on the human characters.  They are there to be victims and other then setting up a little subplot about a cheating wife there isn’t much else for the human actors to do.  Honestly if you were looking for character development then what the heck were you watching Demonic Toys 2 for?  The other thing that is done well here are the Toys.  Sure they look cheesy, but the effects are practical and remind me of all the other Charles Band produced movies in this genre.  Having them use CGI to show the toys running around would have ruined it for me, so give me all the cheesy tricks you have to bring them to life instead.

Sadly though here is where I have to start talking about what I didn’t like.  The kills are lousy.  Most of them are very tame and the couple that are sort of bloody are all done with terrible CGI.  I mean I’m not expecting Day of the Dead here guys, but this is a horror movie so put some thought into it already.  I’m sure there could have been affordable and bloodier ways to do kill off the characters.  They also needed to have a bit more effort made in thinking about the dialogue and where they were shooting.  The best example of this is when a couple of characters decide to check out a “spooky” set of stairs that they haven’t been down before.  So they set off with their flashlights only this is kind of silly considering that there is obviously a light right around the corner illuminating the stairs!  There is no reason to be lazy like this.  I mean change the dialogue or unscrew the damn bulb already!  I’m already suspending my disbelief to watch killer toys so how much more can you ask?

This isn’t a great movie guys.  But if you are a fan of these movies then there is enough here to check it out at least once.  Plus the added bonus is that it is part of a triple feature DVD with Doll Graveyard and Dangerous Worry Dolls.  Not only that but the DVD is pretty affordable.  For more information head over to the Echo Bridge Home Entertainment website at https://www.echobridgeentertainment.com/indexEN.php
