Colonel Kill Motherfuckers (2008)
This is another low budget flick from the sick minds at Hack movies. This time around a group of gamers decide instead of yet another weekend lost with their dice and fantasy role-playing they will do what normal people their age do. So they head off to the liquor store to get a pile of booze so they can get shit faced and maybe get lucky off of each other (there are girls in their motley crew). Unfortunately this puts them on a collision course with a recently discharged homicidal solider. Of course they end up making themselves targets and the Colonel follows them home to kill them, only to get killed himself (never underestimate a paranoid gamer geek!). After much mayhem, including some fecal fortune telling, the gang find themselves up against the zombified version of Colonel Kill, who is out to get them all.
This is another silly movie that isn’t meant to be taken seriously. The plot is fairly straightforward and honestly has quite a few holes in it (how did Wilhelm get back from the park?). The movie really jumps around at times with the narrative feeling like nothing more than an excuse to setup a series of set pieces that try to out gross the one before it. You have fecal fortune telling (yeah really) as well as yet another masturbation scene (getting to be a habit). I like a good fart joke as much as the next guy, and I think poop is funny, but the movie goes a bit too far. The flip side to this is as a former role player myself I did find some of the characters to be pretty funny and the movie did have some decent laughs. I also thought the Buffy obsession was funny as well, since I knew people like this. The cast is pretty good for a low budget movie, and I especially thought that Kevin Strange was really good as Wilhelm. The guy does some great characters and voices and Wilhelm is another good one. As a whole the the biggest strength of the cast is their comedic timing and how well they play off of each other. This sets the movie apart from most other independent no budget movies and really makes the movie worth checking out.
There are a couple of interesting special effects done on the cheap. There is one particular scene where a character’s face gets ripped off that works surprisingly well, in spite of being a simple effect. Also the movie looks pretty good and is light well for an independent shot on digital flick. Kevin Strange really knows how to handle a camera. My one complaint is that every time there is an attack the camera starts to tilt and flip around (yeah shaky camera syndrome has now made it to Hack Movies) which I found annoying. Other than that a Colonel Kill is a solid movie.
While at times the movie has a bit too much gross out humor I did find it really funny at other times. Basically when it comes to independent movies you could do a whole lot worse. If you dig low budget horror comedies you might want to check this one out. Especially if the gross stuff I mentioned won’t bug you.
