Abomination

The Abomination (1986)

The plot of this movie, or at least what there is of it, follows a very religious woman who vomits up a tumor after watching a T.V. preacher. She praises Jesus and tosses it in the garbage. It then proceeds to crawl out and into her son. He eventually spits it out and starts to kill people to feed to it. That is because her tumor was actually the Abomination that has come to consume the human race. Now her son is it’s servant and forced to feed it victims. We know this because he tells us that in a terrible voiceover as a doctor of some sort is quizzing him on his illness. So yeah right away we know that most of what happens in the movie isn’t really what happened… At least I think so.

I wonder when they slapped the title on this movie if they were also describing it? I suppose Awful Waste of Time was already taken. Where do I start with this one? Well the story is weak and they clearly didn’t have nearly enough material for this to be a feature length movie. If that weren’t bad enough what they do have they structure so poorly that I lost interest about 10 minutes in. Let me explain what I mean. The movie opens with a guy having nightmares of some really terrible things happening. Here we get to see all of the gore effects that will happen in the movie. Yeah that is right the movie actually spoils it’s own payoff. In all the years of watching low budget flicks I’ve never seen one destroy itself quite as quickly as this one does. Then we get a voiceover of the main actor as he explains on and off as the movie proceeds what is happening. So again we know right away that he is locked up for something and that a doctor is interviewing him. So already we get that he is going to do some bad things. Well I mean if watching him murder everyone right up front as again we see all the gore right away didn’t give that away.

This movie just bugs me. I don’t know why I bothered sitting thru the whole thing. You get all the kills right up front, which is normally why I would stay with a flick like this until the end credits. Truthfully this movie is nothing more then some decently executed low budget gore surrounded by padding. I think that the people making this movie knew they had nothing. We get the effects not twice (at the beginning and when they happen) but also a recap at the end that shows us everything again in the same order. Hell I think they just copied the opening and added it to the end with a different voiceover. Oh and on a funny but really sad note we keep getting to see a cow. Yeah several times the movie just randomly shows us the same footage of a cow standing in a field. I suppose maybe it was an evil cow or something. But they never tell us. What is up with that cow damn it!

Terrible movie that no one should ever have to sit thru. This one is the second feature on the Ozone Attack of the Red Neck Mutants DVD. I sort of dug that movie, but please for the love of God skip this one.
