2 Headed Shark Attack (2012)

After 3 plus years of running Gutmunchers.com and a couple of years before that of writing for another site I have to say that getting packages in the mail from companies isn’t’ that exciting anymore.  Though once in a while I open one up that does get me fired up and remind me of why I like doing this so much.  When I tore open the envelope and saw the title I was already hooked.  For the 1st time in a while I sat right down and watched a movie I just got.

The story involves a group of college students spending a semester at sea.  The ship or really small fishing boat springs a leak and starts to sink.  Lucky for them that they are near an island, or I suppose as they keep mentioning that it is really just an atoll, that they can stay on until the boat is fixed.  But then the island/atoll starts to sink!  As if a sinking island isn’t bad enough news they soon realize that a 2 headed shark is stalking the waters around them and is very hungry.  Lots of sinking and shark carnage ensues until the credits roll.

This is another of those Asylum movies and I loved it.  I mean it isn’t a good movie in the traditional sense of things.  The story is dumb and the characters almost throw themselves into the shark’s mouth.  You know actually they some of them actually do toss themselves into the shark’s mouth, but I’ll say more about the special effects later.  Though I pick on the story it was funny that right about the time my wife said, “there is an island why are they worried about the shark?” that they then let on that the island is sinking.  So I guess that sort of makes sense.  Though we do watch the characters yell that they have nowhere to go when you can clearly see land behind them.  But forget logic when watching 2 Headed Shark Attack.  I mean it has a shark with 2 heads in it, so how logical can it be?

The cast is made up of “B” list celebrities like Carmen Electra (who plays a professor!) and Charlie “my brother got me on Sliders” O’Connell, as well as a reality T.V. star Brooke Hogan.  The rest of the cast is made up of unknowns.  The only comment that I can make about the cast is that they look good in swimwear and the filmmakers give them ample time to jiggle about on screen.  Oh and Electra has a wonderful sunbathing scene as well…

Finally we need to talk some special effects.  The shark is mostly CGI and looks goofy as hell.  And the filmmakers give it lots of screen time so you can make sure and notice how silly it looks.  This is perfect for a flick like this.  When they switch to an actual appliance for the sharks head we get a lot of “Lugosi” effort being made by the cast to wrestle themselves into the shark’s mouth.  Make sure to watch how often the rubber teeth bend.

Let me finish this review with what should be totally obvious.  You aren’t supposed to take a movie like 2 Headed Shark Attack seriously.  I didn’t and that is why it was so much fun.  Pretty but dumb characters make horrible decisions and get eaten by a fake looking shark.  This can be a blast if done well and this one does it very well.  Not much else that I can say except that you really need to see this one.  I recommend 2 Headed Shark Attack.
